Translator, Key conceps, week 10 task 9
We can find four leadership styles that are: authoritarian, participative, transactional, and transformational. Now we are going to explain each style with their advantages and disadvantages:
We are going to start with the authoritarian leader, this is the person who give orders to other people which must do what this leader says and if they do it in a good way, they receive a reward but if they don't do it in a proper way they received a punishment because the authoritarian leader think that he or she is the unique person trained to do good things and to order properly and only their ideas are worth it. They have the power and the control, they think that their workers need someone to tell them what they have to do because they don't know how to think by themselves.
Some advantages of this leadership style are that can be effective for those people who require vigilance to perform their tasks, as this prevents them from relaxing, and improves performance, productivity... Some disadvantages are that they do not take into account the opinion of others, because for them, the other people are simply individuals who must obey their orders, since they think that they are superior to them.
The second one is the participative leader which is the person that keep in mind the opinions of others and then, they base their decision-making on those ideas. They try that the other people participate in the activities, give some ideas... This leader has the capacity to understand the needs of other people and tries to help them. The participative leader encourages their children, give the same attention to all of them...
Some advantages of this leadership style are that this leader creates a very good work environment, encourages the participation of all the groups to work the tasks, provides the same opportunities for all… but some disadvantages are that all the ideas that other people provide cannot be taken into account, but several of them are the ones that this leader will use for its implementation so it can create rivalry problems between them.
The third one is the transactional leader, it is the one that proposes a goal that other people must reach and for that this leader motivates them through reinforcements or prizes, but if they defeat without reaching the objective they can also receive punishments. This leader gives more importance to fulfilling the objective than to the work environment or its children. These people only establish deals between the students if both win.
Some advantages of this leadership style are that through the rewards they motivate their students and also this style of leadership is very good to know who works properly to reach a goal and who is not efficient in their work. Some of the disadvantages are that it does not create a good working environment because this type of leadership is very competitive and also gives more importance to the benefits rather than to the well-being of the students.
And finally, the transformational leadership. This style is related to those leaders that trust a lot their students and give them full freedom to make their decisions to develop their work ... This leader has in mind others and makes the others participants because they believe that without them they can't achieve their objectives. Furthermore, they don't exert any kind of pressure on others, if not that they take more into account the quality of work than speed and quantity.
The advantages of this leadership style are that the work environment is very good and the relationships between student and teacher are very good. Some disadvantages are that often, leaving so much freedom, the results are usually not as good as expected, in addition, overconfidence can be misinterpreted and students would not work and would not take it seriously.
