OUR 5TH WEEK
Hi! We are Marina and Kasia and we are the journalists this week. The main topic of the presentation from task 5 was: "The dark side of
textbooks’’. All of the groups had to prepare, using a fable or a poster, presentations about this topic.
After working on it, on the class of wendnesday, which started at 10:30, we listened to the other groups presentations. Our stars did our presentation and they did such a great job! everyone loved it!

We got to watch the presentation of the group Empty21. They created a very
interesting fable with an owl and a fox. The owl was the smart one, with a
huge bookish knowledge. The owl definitely was a representative of bookworm
type. In contrast, we could see a fox which wanted to get a
global knowledge, wide perspective and more experience.
The group also took into account the environmental
issue. Printing books is very harmful for our environment. We can’t even
imagine how many trees suffer for it.
Fireproofessors developed an awesome fable where it was shown a teacher who was using textbooks to teach the subjects to his students but he noticed that the students were not motivated so he changed the way of teaching.

Empty
21 also raised a subject about history and tradition.
We have to know that it’s very difficult to create an objective book without
any political and ideological subtext.

According to Teacher's Team the most important thing is what is in the teacher. We don’t have to be slaves of our textbooks. Teacher’s Team informed us that we have to remember one thing: TEACHER HAS THE POWER. Also, we can not ignore the money issue. We are paying for books, which are very expensive. Some people can’t afford it. It’s better to have ebook or tablet and download all of the materials which are necessary for us.

Lovely teachers let us understand that teacher’s autonomy is limited when using books. Following rules is very shallow. Teacher should be creative and charismatic. Books don’t include all of the aspects. Everything is better by teaching and learning by experiences, not schemas.
What about Spice Girls? This group also took into account the money issue, and the fact that we (as students and teachers) have a enormous amount of resources. Empirical teaching is the key, memorizing is not good. They recommended us the Swedish website about ways of teaching which calls: laktio.se
Teachers' Formation explained to us 7 reason against books. We can find out that: books are heavy, expensive, history books are not objective and sometimes pictures are discriminatory, books are killing the activities of the teachers and discouraging students at the same time, children are studying by only memorizing which is not good, books are influenced by the political context.
Thanks to Universal Teachers made us aware of that textbooks don’t guarantee a true education, it worsens it for students! In their opinion, working by project is the key.
To sum up, all of the groups mostly focused on the money issue and empirical teaching (experiences).
